Champions League Results: Wins 5-1, Benfica Advances to the Quarterfinals!

The results of Benfica vs Club Brugge in the second leg of the last 16 of the 2022-2023 Champions League are known. As Aguias -Benfica’s nickname- successfully won with a score of 5-1.

The match Benfica vs Club Brugge was held at the Da Luz Stadium, Portugal, Tuesday (7/3/2023). Benfica’s goals in this match were scored by Rafa Silva (38′), Goncalo Ramos brace (45+2′ and 57′), Joao Mario’s penalty goal (71′), and David Neres’ goal (77′).

With this victory, Benfica has made it even smoother to advance to the quarter-finals of the 2022-2023 Champions League. Because, they enlarge their lead in the aggregate score to 7-1. In the first leg match, Benfica is known to have won with a score of 2-0.

Benfica immediately took control of the game at the start of the match. In fact, they have managed to score a goal when the game has only been running for two minutes. However, the goal scored by Joao Mario was disallowed by the referee after viewing the VAR.

However, Benfica did not give up. They remained consistent and continued to attack the defense of Club Brugge. Benfica’s efforts finally success.

In the 38th minute, Benfica opened the scoring thanks to Rafa Silva’s goal. He managed to take advantage of a good bait from Goncalo Ramos. The score changed to 1-0.

Continuing to be attacked, Club Brugge occasionally tried to counterattack the home team. One of the attempts was made by Tajon Buchanan in the 43rd minute. However, the ball was wide of the goal.

Instead of scoring a goal, Club Brugge conceded again in injury time. Precisely in the kr-45+2 minute, Alejandro Grimaldo got his name on the scoreboard. He managed to take advantage of bait from Joao Mario.

The 2-0 score was maintained until the end of the first half. Because, shortly after Benfica’s second goal, the referee blew the long whistle.

Benfica, which is already far superior, both in this match and in terms of the aggregate score, is still refusing to relax its attacks. They are still intensely attacking the Club Brugge defense.

In the 57th minute, Benfica also managed to increase its lead to 3-0. Ramos again became an important actor in this goal. He listed his name on the scoreboard after successfully utilizing bait from Alejandro Grimaldo.

Club Brugge also tried to reduce its lag. In the 61st minute, Casper Nielsen fired a hard shot from outside the penalty box. However, the ball still soared high above the goal.

Benfica even added to the suffering of Club Brugge in the 74th minute. Joao Mario successfully executed the penalty awarded by the referee after Gilberto committed a foul in the forbidden box. The score changed to 4-0.

Far behind, Club Brugge managed to reduce the lag in the 87th minute. Through the action of Bjor Mijer the score changed to 1-5. This score was maintained until the end of the match.
