Suzuki Ecstar rider Alex Rins on Friday underwent successful surgery on his right forearm. He was involved in the first two free practise sessions accident on Thursday at Circuit de Barcelona.
Rins was taken to a local hospital for a medical check-up, where he was diagnosed suffering a fracture in the radius bone. However, the Spaniard will not take part in his home Grand Prix but he might return at the German Grand Prix in a couple weekend.
“The surgery went well, I’m already thinking about my recovering and how I can get back to 100 percent as soon as possible. However, the whole incident leaves a bitter aftertaste, my apologies to the team for not being able to participate this weekend.” Rins said.
“Last year we had a great result here in Barcelona and were on the podium with both bikes. It’s a shame we can’t try again this year.
“Today’s surgery will hopefully mean I need the shortest possible rehab time, which is why we decided to have this procedure. I will do my best to return for the German Grand Prix. Thank you all for all the news and support.” Rins added.
According to Suzuki’s doctor Xavier Mir, Rins does not rule out participation in the next German GP. It remains to be seen under what conditions he would return at the Sachsenring
“Today Alex Rins underwent minimal surgery on his right forearm in which the fracture was fixed with two screws.”Mir said.
“If there are no complications, I think he can start functional recovering next Monday. We do not rule out that he can return at the Sachsenring in two weeks.” he added.
Suzuki on the other hand, confirmed that Rins won’t be replaced at the Catalan GP. However, the Japanese manucature hope to see their rider return in a couple of weekend’s time at the Sachsenring.
