Bradley Beal’s trade to the Phoenix Suns marked a fresh start for him. It necessitated him adjusting to an unfamiliar role and a new offensive scheme.
The Suns coach Frank Vogel prefers to utilise a player as a secondary playmaker alongside Kevin Durant and Devin Booker.
However, according to former NBA player Chandler Parsons, Bradley is unhappy in this assigned role.
“I think we need to discuss Bradley as it is my biggest concern today. I don’t like his body language in the last few games.” Parsons said.
“The team is beating the Cleveland Cavaliers easily, for example, and he looks discouraged running to the three-point line, you know?”
“He sits on the bench and stares into space, as if thinking about his role. I really don’t like it,” Parsons added.
Beal’s scoring average has dipped to a 7-year low of 17.4 points per night after taking on a starting role for the Washington Wizards.
While Beal’s early injury explains his slow start, Parsons has believed there could be other reasons for the disappointment.
“Phoenix hasn’t won as many games as expected so far. Bradley, meanwhile, was never a third offensive role. So, I don’t doubt that this could be bothering you.” Parsons said.
“I’ve been on the court and been part of squads, so I speak with some confidence, and I can tell that something is wrong with Bradley right now.” Parsons added.
Playing point guard in the NBA is a demanding role, requiring a player to transition from scorer to facilitator, a challenging feat.
Beal’s arrival with the Suns relegated him to a supporting role, a significant shift after years as a leading scorer. For Lou Williams, this is a bigger transformation than one might expect.
“This is the first time Bradley has gone through this type of adjustment. After all, even alongside John Wall , he was still the team’s top scorer.” Williams said.
“John set up the team, while he was the one looking to get a basket. But now, he’s just a kicker positioned to support references like Kevin and Devin, and, in fact, I’ve seen his body posture not being very good for some time now,” Williams added.
