Carlos Sainz Unhappy with British GP Clash with Romain Grosjean

McLarent’s Carlos Sainz was not pleased by the British GP clash with Haas-Ferrari driver Romain Grosjean on this Sunday at Silverstone Circuit.

Grosjean, who was given a black-and-white warning flag during the race as well as an official warning after the race for dangerous defensive driving, finished 16th.

“A lot of attack in the first few laps, during the Safety Car period, and having to go through a very dangerous Romain Grosjean.” Sainz said.

“I did a lot of management in that middle part of the race. We knew it would be tight on the tyres, so it was proved that it was tight when I obviously had the puncture.

“In general, I guess luck hasn’t been with me during these first three or four races. Today we lost a lot of points so I’m disappointed. But at the same time everything was done correctly up until the two laps to the end, so I cannot be too hard on the team or myself.

“It’s unacceptable. You could clearly see he was waiting for me to get close and to go side by side, to give me a shock. We’re doing 300kph and we need to respect each other a bit more because you’ve seen a couple of accidents that were huge.

“As drivers, we don’t realise the speed we’re going. I nearly crashed into Romain because he moved so late. I think he will have a look at it and he will regret it because it’s scarily dangerous and unacceptable.” Sainz added.

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton won the British GP after another commanding drive but he and team-mate and closest rival Valtteri Bottas suffered punctures in the final lap.

Overall, the British GP was already extraordinary for the absence of fans due to the coronavirus outbreak so far.
