Ole Gunnar Solskjaer picked Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo for Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Everton on Sunday.
Ronaldo was on the bench until the 57th minute. United were leading 1-0 when he came on, only for Everton to score an equaliser through Andros Townsend as United’s recent indifferent form continued.
United’s striker Cavani told Skysports as a player he must be ready whenever needed by the coach.
“Sometimes you play more, sometimes you play less, managers make decisions, but that doesn’t stop the work to always be competitive.” Cavani said.
“The league has just started and I have needed to be, not quite like last year, but I’m there to be a part of it.” he added.
Ronaldo returned to Old Trafford and the 36-year-old superstar scored a double on his debut to bring home a 4-1 win and title leader in the table.
After the final whistle went at Old Trafford against Everton, Ronaldo was seen storming down the tunnel in frustration. The Portuguese superstar was not happy at the two points dropped.
“Those are things that happen, a lot of debate is created, but football is football and you don’t have to turn it around too much, it’s not because one or the other is there.” Cavani said.
“The important thing is to be prepared for when it’s your turn, you always want to play, he wants to be there forever, but that is not going to change my way of thinking or acting.” Cavani added.
United’s next Premier League game is at Leicester on Saturday. Everton are next in action against West Ham United on Sunday.
