Former UFC fetherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor will face Dustin Poirier for the third time. It will be next July 10 in a fight organized by the UFC.
On his official Twitter account, the Irishman sent a threatening message to his opponent on Saturday.
“The fight is booked! July 10th you’re gonna see what the Mac is all about. Adjust and absolutely destroy,” McGregor wrote.
McGregor and Poirier are tied at 1-1 after two previous meetings. The American fighter stopped the Irishman in the second round of the main event of UFC 257 in Abu Dhabi in January of this year.
At the UFC 260 pre-fight press conference last week, UFC President Dana White admitted Poirier wants the rematch in summer as the promotion starts holding events in crowd-filled arenas again.
“That’s smart. That’s what he should do. He should take the rematch, take that fight. It’s a big fight for him. Kid’s worked hard his whole life, his whole career to be in a position like this. That’s the fight you take.” White said.
“We’ve been in positions like this before with others who have made the mistake of not taking that fight, and it was the biggest mistake of their lives.” White added.
White has insisted he wants the trilogy fight to make headlines this summer, with restrictions on coronaviruses loosening in parts of the world.
It has been reported that the two lightweight contenders will be the main attraction at the showpiece – which will likely take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The winner of the trilogy will be offered a title shot against the winner of Michael Chandler’s fight against Charles Oliveira in May.
