De Gea is Extraordinary, But Onana Fits MU Well

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw compared the qualities of David de Gea and Andre Onana. David de Gea has left Man United after serving 12 years at the Red Devils. The departure of David de Gea made Man United decide to recruit a goalkeeper from Cameroon, Andre Onana, from Inter Milan.

Onana, who recorded an impressive performance when helping Inter qualify for the 2022-2023 Champions League final, has reached a personal agreement with Man United. The goalkeeper from Cameroon agreed to a four-year contract plus the option of one season extension with Man United.

Andre Onana has made two appearances when Man United lost against Real Madrid (0-2) and Borussia Dortmund (2-3). At that time, Onana played the full game against Real Madrid and appeared for 45 minutes against Borussia Dortmund.

Luke Shaw saw that Onana had qualified qualities to replace David de Gea under the Man United goal. Apart from that, Luke Shaw also did not forget to express his appreciation for De Gea, who has made 545 appearances at Man United.

“De Gea is extraordinary for us,” said Luke Shaw, who is under contract at Man United until 2027. “We are sad to see him (De Gea) leave. However, Andre Onana will bring a different quality,” he added. The English defender said that Onana fits well with the type of game Man United under the tutelage of Erik ten Hag.

What’s more, according to Luke Shaw, Onana has the ability to build attacks from behind. “I’m very impressed so far. He (Onana) fits perfectly with the way our manager (Ten Hag) wants to play,” he said. “You will see a different side to our game that builds from behind,” he added. “He brings more calm,” said the former Southampton man.

Furthermore, Luke Shaw explained that Man United had changed significantly while being coached by Erik ten Hag. “The manager demands we are better every day. Even when you are at home, he wants you to be the best,” said Shaw. “He wants you to do the right thing, live well because football is part of our life. It’s what we do,” he added.
