The England national team had to fight in the last match or Matchday 3 to qualify for the group stage after only got draw result 1-1 against Denmark on the second matchday of Group C Euro 2024 Germany, Thursday (20/6/2024).
In the match at the Frankfurt Arena Stadium, England managed to take the lead first through the action of striker who is also the national team captain Harry Kane in the 18th minute. However, Denmark was able to equalize in the 34th minute and the score of 1-1 lasted until the long whistle blown.
Kane asked his teammates to focus and ignore the negative comments that emerged due to failing to win the match in order to qualify for the group stage earlier.
“I’m sure there will be a lot of negative noise and disappointment back home [England], but this is the time to stay calm,” Kane said after the match as quoted from the UEFA EURO 2024 page, Friday (21/6/2024).
Kane is confident that the Euro 2020 finalists can qualify from the group stage to advance to the round of 16.
“We all qualified, and that is the number 1 objective,” said the Bayern Munich striker.
Meanwhile, England coach Gareth Southgate said his players unable to control the course of the match which ended in a draw.
Southgate said the victory over Serbia and the draw against Denmark on the first 2 matches would be the subject of his evaluation ahead of the final match against Slovenia. So far, two chances are still open in Group C to qualify for the round of 16.
“We need to analyze these two performances in depth, and we have to find solutions to solve the problems that we have,” he said.
“We need to use the time in the next day to do this [evaluation],” Southgate added.
This result makes England posisioned at the top of the standings with four points. Meanwhile, Denmark and Slovenia are in second and third place respectively with two points. Serbia is in last place with one point.
