F1 Confirms Return to Las Vegas in Night Race in 2023

Formula 1 confirmed, on Wednesday night, its third race in the United States: it is the GP of Las Vegas, in the state of Nevada.

According to reports, the race will debut in 2023 at night and is expected to be held at the end of November. The track will consist of 14 turns and have top speeds of up to 212mph.

F1 boss Stefano Domenicali recently said there was demand from new partners to host F1 races. He has been keen to expand the sport to new regions since he took over as F1 boss and the race at Las Vegas will be seen as a crowning achievement.

Meanwhile, Greg Maffei, Liberty Media president and CEO explained the race would be a “marquee event” in the calendar.

“Iconic Las Vegas and Formula 1, the pinnacle of motorsport, is the perfect marriage of speed and glamour. Our confidence in this unique opportunity is evident in our decision to assume the promoter role for the Las Vegas Grand Prix in partnership with Live Nation.” Maffei said.

“We could not be more excited to work with our local partners to create a marquee event. The potential of Formula 1 has been well demonstrated over the last several seasons and the Las Vegas GP will only take it to the next level.” he added.

The announcement of the stage also means the return of the category to the city; in 1981 and 1982, the surroundings of the Caesar’s Palace hotel hosted two editions of a GP of the same name, won by Alan Jones and Michele Alboreto. The first also marked the first world title for three-time Brazilian champion Nelson Piquet.

In 2021, the good reception of the United States GP in Austin, Texas, made the possibility of organizing a third race in the country grow in the eyes of F1, one of the biggest targets for expansion of the category’s market.
