Failed Again in the Champions League, Juventus President Discuss Ronaldo’s Move

Juventus had to be eliminated in the last 16 of the 2019-2020 Champions League after only being able to compete with the final 2-2 on aggregate against representatives of France, Olympique Lyon. Juventus died because of the aggressiveness of the away goals from Lyon.

This defeat no doubt made the atmosphere of the Juventus dressing room heated up. In addition to the issue of Maurizio Sarri’s dismissal from the coaching chair, their superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is also said to be leaving.

Ronaldo is known as an ambitious player and always wants to be the best. However, since joining Juventus in the summer of 2018, Ronaldo has only been able to win the Italian League title.

Meanwhile, in the Coppa Italia and Champions League, Juve were always left out, even before reaching the final. Even though the initial intention of Juventus President, Andrea Agnelli, to bring Ronaldo was to help the Old Lady win the Champions League title.

Agnell doesn’t deny that Ronaldo is an extraordinary player. In the match against Lyon last night, Ronaldo scored two goals. Unfortunately, that was not enough to make Juve progress to the quarter-finals.

“Juventus has this goal (to win the Champions League). They must be respected, both at home and in Europe. We have the best player in the history of the Champions League (Ronaldo), which he proved again tonight, and we have to start again with renewed enthusiasm, “said Agnelli, quoting from Italian Football, Saturday (8/8/2020).

Due to this failure, Ronaldo was finally rumored to be leaving the Old Lady in the 2020 summer transfer market. The club that is said to be Ronaldo’s next port is Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

However, Agnelli is reluctant to believe the issue. According to him, it is just a media game. Agnelli believes that CR7 will still play for Juventus next season.

“I fully believe he (Ronaldo) will stay. I think the report came from an interview a few months ago, which was just published before we played against the French team. It’s an old media trick. No, I can assure you that Ronaldo remains a pillar of Juventus, “said Agnelli.

Currently, Ronaldo still has a contract period at Juventus until June 30, 2022. This is what makes Agnelli optimistic that Ronaldo still wants to continue his career at Juventus.
