Fikayo Tomori Officially Signs with AC Milan

Rumors about the transfer of Chelsea’s defender, Fikayo Tomori, to AC Milan in the winter market have finally been answered. Precisely, through the club’s official social media account, AC Milan, announced their latest signing, Fikayo Tomori, on loan. Rumors about AC Milan’s interest in Tomori have started sticking to the media in recent weeks.

Tomori’s name emerged as the target of AC Milan after the management decided to stop the hunt for Strasbourg player Mohamed Simakan. AC Milan’s decision to replace their target to Tomori, was due to several details of Simakan’s transfer fee that AC Milan could not fulfill and Simakan is currently suffering an injury.

As before, AC Milan did buy players who were rarely rumored by the media. However, the recruitment of Tomori, is clear evidence that the technical director team always has options for every player it targets. For example, some time ago AC Milan had their eye on the French club, Toulouse, namely Kouadio Kone, to fill the midfield. However, because the player decided to move to another club, AC Milan immediately bought another player who has the same playing character, namely Soualiho Meite from Torino. And now AC Milan brought Fikayo Tomori from Chelsea, who became the second alternative after AC Milan failed to get Simakan.

In this deal, Il Rossoneri borrowed Tomori from Chelsea until the end of the season with an option to buy permanently. Tomori’s arrival at AC Milan in this winter market to replace the center-back slot left by Leo Duarte who left for Istanbul Basaksehir. In addition, Tomori is also expected to replace the injured Gabbia and Kjaer who is prone to injury.

Tomori with Chelsea plays at center-back, but can also play at right-back. Tomori, who was born in the City of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, chose England as his citizenship. When in fact Tomori comes from parents who have Nigerian blood.

Since childhood, Tomori has played for the Chelsea academy since he was 8 years old. The 23-year-old player played for Chelsea Youth from 2005 to 2014, eventually moving up to the Chelsea U18, Chelsea U21 and Chelsea U23 levels. While still playing for Chelsea U23, Tomori was loaned to English club Brighton & Hove Albion in the second half of the 2016/2017 season. Then after being promoted to the Chelsea senior team at the start of the 2017/2018 season, Tomori was immediately loaned out to Hull City. And the following season on loan at Derby County.

Performing extraordinary with Derby County, Fikayo Tomori immediately became a core player in Chelsea’s main squad in the 2019/2020 season, and his performance was quite slick. However, since the arrival of Thiago Silva from Paris Saint Germain at the start of this season, Tomori has only warmed the bench this season. Tomori has recorded only 4 matches in all competitions for Chelsea this season.

At a fairly young age, the player whose full name is Oluwafikayomi Oluwadamilola Tomori is considered quite accomplished. Where in a row in the 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 seasons, Tomori led Chelsea U19 to win the UEFA Youth League U19 title. And also in 2017, Tomori led the England U20 national team to win the 2017 U20 World Cup.

At the national team level, Tomori made his debut for the England senior national team on 17 November 2019 when he was 21 years 10 months 29 days old. Apart from playing in the senior national team, Tomori has also played for the England national team at a young age. What’s interesting is that when he was 18 years old, Tomori played for 2 national teams, namely the England U20 national team and the Canada U20 national team. But until now Tomori has decided to continue to defend the England national team. However, in the future Tomori can also play for the Nigerian senior national team, because his parents are from Nigeria.

With AC Milan at this time, Tomori is expected to immediately play as a starter paired with Alessio Romagnoli, because currently Matteo Gabbia and Simon Kjaer are still injured. Apart from that Mateo Musacchio is also in a bad period of form, so it is perfect for Tomori to start right away.
