Honda’s technical Toyoharu Tanabe has confirmed that the engine Red Bull driver Max Verstappen used at thr British Grand Prix will be used in the first free practice session at the Hungaroring circuit.
“It was good to see Max not suffering any injury effects from the Silverstone carsh and we were able to verify that the power unit he used during the British GP weekend is working normally.” Tanabe said.
“However, there is is still a lot of room for improvement and that is what we will be working on from now on. Qualifying has been very tight on most circuits this year and as is always the case on a short track like Hungaroring the lap times will be even tighter than usual. So we can expect a very close battle for qualifying.” Tanabe added.
Red Bull and Mercedes faced the British GP stewards again on Thursday as the former attempted to challenge the original verdict on the incident between Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. But the request for a review was subsequently rejected.
Hamilton was found to have been “predominantly” at fault for causing the collision and punished with a 10-second penalty, which he served at his pit stop. The Mercedes driver was also given two penalty points on his licence.
“The outcome I think he didn’t expect but I think he definitely misjudged the speed of entering in such a tight angle into that corner, and that’s why he understeered wide,” Verstappen said.
“Of course I don’t think he meant to make me crash in such a fashion, but that’s not for me to answer, But nevertheless I didn’t score any points which is the worst thing about all of it.” Verstappen added.
