ICC 2019 results: Juventus lose to Atletico 1-2

Juventus lost 1-2 to Atletico Madrid in a preseason match at the International Champions Cup tournament at the Friends Arena on Saturday (10/8).

Atletico were 2-1 ahead in the first half thanks to goals from Thomas Lemar and Joao Felix. While Juventus can only reply through Sami Khedira’s goal.

Juventus dominate the game more by continuing to put pressure. But Atletico’s solid defense made it difficult for Serie A champions to penetrate the penalty box and score.

Meanwhile, Atletico took advantage of Juventus’ negligence through counterattacks. In the 22nd minute Koke almost broke into the Juventus goal, but his shot which used the turmoil in front of the opponent’s goal was blocked by the Juventus defender.

Atletico actually took the lead through their new player’s goal, Joao Felix in the 24th minute after utilizing Kieran’s Trippier cross. Trippier’s ripe pass from the right side is directly welcomed through Felix volley using the inside foot. In replays the first ball hit Thomas Lemar before entering the Juventus goal.

Alvaro Morata has the opportunity to increase the advantage of Atletico in the 25th minute. However, Morata’s left foot kick using Felix’s short pass could be blocked by Giorgio Chiellini.

Atletico’s defense meeting made Juventus many shots from outside the penalty box. Juventus’ equalizer paid off in the 28th minute through Sami Khedira’s shot from outside the area.

Khedira’s shot smelled of speculation given that Los Rojiblancos was playing tightly in defense. When he saw a wild ball rolling in front of the opponent’s penalty box, Khedira immediately fired a horizontal kick that made the ball move to the lower right corner of the Jan Oblak’s goal.

Felix returned to make Atletico excel in the 33rd minute through a kick that made use of a cross pass. Felix’s second goal came after the former Benfica player escaped from escort Matthijs de Ligt. The first half ended 2-1 to Atletico’s advantage over Juventus.

In the second half Juventus continued to play aggressively to catch up. In the 50th minute Gonzalo Higuain had a chance to score, but his shot was thin on the right side of the opponent’s goal.

To increase the attack Juventus played Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic in the second round. While Atletico put Diego Costa.

Atletico’s substitute Rodrigo Riquelme fears over the Juventus defense. Riquelme hard kick from outside the penalty box sideways on the right side of goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

Juventus responded to Atletico’s attack through Paulo Dybala’s chances. After receiving Mario Mazdzukic’s pass, Dybala released a left-footed shot that goalkeeper Jan Oblak could anticipate.

The next Dybala attack occurred in the 85th minute. But again Dybala’s kick hit the Atletico defender can still be captured well by Oblak.

Without additional goals in the second half Atletico’s 2-1 win over Juventus.
