Thomas Bach, as President of the International Olympic Committee or IOC, said he was ready to openly welcome Indonesia’s initiative to host the 2036 Olympics.
Recently, Thomas Bach warmly welcomed Indonesian President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) statement regarding Indonesia’s willingness and readiness to host the upcoming 2036 Summer Olympics.
Summarized SportReviews on Kemkominfo TV’s YouTube channel, Bach also stated that President Jokowi’s message was in line with the IOC’s new philosophy.
He wanted to emphasize the importance of the contribution of sport and the Olympics to unity.
“Thank you very much. I can only welcome Indonesia’s readiness,” said Bach.
“Because this is in line with the new philosophy of the IOC, which in the future first wants to emphasize what President Jokowi said about how important the Olympics can contribute to unity,” continued Bach.
Bach claims the Olympics have also been proven to create unity in their respective countries.
Indonesia is also considered appropriate and appropriate if later appointed as the host country.
According to Bach, the Olympics has made people pay attention together to sports which so far have proven to be a unifying factor.
Bach also praised Indonesia as an important example of harmony and diversity which is in line with one of the IOC’s long term goals, namely Unity in Diversity.
“Indonesia is a clear example that with existing cultural diversity, harmony can be created between the diversity of cultures, religions/beliefs, and political ideologies that coexist. This is a shining example of the Olympic spirit,” he explained.
“Therefore, if the Olympics are held in Indonesia, it will be an arena for voicing the message of Unity in Diversity, tolerance and brotherhood, which is once again in line with the motto of the Olympics and the G20 Summit about togetherness,” continued Bach.
Bach also commented on the selection of a new capital city, Nusantara, as the location that Indonesia would propose to host the 2036 summer Olympics.
According to him, the Olympic Mission has another message in an effort to make people become fond of sports.
“This Olympics will probably be held in a sustainable city and become a model for sustainable and healthy living, in the archipelago, which emphasizes the importance of health and physical activity,” he said.
“So this is a very interesting project that I warmly welcome, and we at the IOC offer to work together to help further develop this project so that together we can create the best Olympic project for Indonesia and the international community,” said Bach.
Nevertheless, Bach reminded that Indonesia is not the only country that has volunteered to host the 2036 Olympics.
Indonesia is also not the only country that has submitted a bid to host the 2036 Summer Olympics by choosing a location that has not yet been fully established.
Egypt is also interested in doing the same by proposing their new administrative capital under construction since 2015.
Earlier on Wednesday morning, President Jokowi conveyed Indonesia’s willingness and readiness to propose the Archipelago as the host for the 2036 Summer Olympics.
“On this occasion, I convey Indonesia’s willingness and readiness to host the 2036 Olympics in the Archipelago’s Capital,” Jokowi said.
Previously, Indonesia was interested in bidding to host the 2032 Olympics.
However, Brisbane, Australia, since 24 February 2021 has received IOC preferred bid status.
As a result, as of 21 July 2021 Australia has successfully won the nomination.
