Joao Felix, New Addition for Chelsea Forwards

Premier League club Chelsea Football Club has indeed become one of the most aggressive clubs in the January transfer market. It is noted that there have been 3 new players arriving in this transfer window, all of whom are young players. The first recruit was David Datro Fofana who was a 20 year old striker signed from Swedish club Molde. Then there is Andrey Santos who plays as a young attacking midfielder from Brazil who was brought in from Vasco da Gama. The Blues also got a new centre-back to fill the position of Chelsea’s injury-prone defender. AS Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile has completed his move and is joining soon.

However, Graham Potter’s team are not satisfied with the existing recruits, considering that the attacking sector is also an important thing to strengthen. Chelsea previously secured a pre-contract agreement with Christopher Nkunku, the RB Leipzig speedy winger set to join at the start of next season. By following Nkunku to join, Chelsea’s management is trying to recruit new forwards who can immediately join the team.

Many top names have been linked with coming to Stamford Bridge this January, but the choice fell on Joao Felix, who had been officially announced by the club some time ago. Felix will join Chelsea on a loan deal for 6 months or until the end of the season and with no purchase option. Chelsea management reportedly has to pay a loan fee of 11 million Euros and will bear Joao Felix’s salary for 6 months. The signing of Joao Felix looks to be very useful given the crisis of injured and struggling forwards.

Joao Felix so far this season with Atletico Madrid has played 14 matches, scored 4 goals and made 3 assists. This player who plays as an attacker can be used by Chelsea to break into the opponent’s defense using his speed when carrying the ball. Apart from that, he also has good individual skills and is able to work together to open up space so that more shooting opportunities are created.

Chelsea so far this season has experienced a decline in performance that tends to be significant. After sacking coach Thomas Tuchel at the start of the season, the Blues seemed to have received a breath of fresh air after recruiting top British coach Graham Potter. At the beginning of Potter’s leadership, Chelsea had shown increased performance by often winning matches and keeping a clean sheet or not conceding a goal. Problems started coming when a hurricane of injuries befell the squad for the Champions League Champions this 21/22 season. Starting from the loss of tough full back Reece James to the recently revealed injury of Christian Pulisic.

Since the start of the season, Chelsea have lost an important player, namely N’Golo Kante, who suffered a hamstring injury. Also, many players have experienced a decline in performance, so that Chelsea’s game is sometimes underdeveloped. With new leadership under Graham Potter and the arrival of a number of new players, it is worth waiting for Chelsea’s performance going forward and will keep the audience curious until the end of the season.
