At the centre of his office a custom built coffee table and framed under the glass were the front pages of three Italian newspapers, each one celebrating and showcasing a different trophy Mourinho had won during his glorious final season at Inter Milan. In addition to these were the books strewn across the surface in different languages – English, French, Spanish and Portuguese, Japanese with a uniform theme that they were all biographies of Mourinho. Mourinho’s face, that five o’clock shadow, his salt and pepper hair beamed out of each cover. Since he took charge of Manchester United four months back he has wasted no time in personalising his new space at the club’s Aon Training Complex.

It loudly talks about Jose Mourinho everywhere and one witness his previous triumphs his state of the art bike. Soon he will have another book to his collection. “Jose Mourinho: Up Close and Personal” which is to be published in Britain next week though it has already caused no turbulence yet. Almost everyone knows that Jose Mourinho landed the Manchester United job inpsite of some reservations about his abrasive style but he is perceived as a guarantee of success. He simply does not believe in any high minded principles or present himself as the symbol of some great philosophy. He only asks his players and his supporters and his employers to subscribe to him unquestioningly to the cult of his personality. Jose Mourinho than leads, they follow and everyone wins.
