Jude Bellingham is confident he can live up to Real Madrid’s high expectations after his move from Borussia Dortmund.
Bellingham scored his first goal since his £88.5 million move in a 2-0 win over Manchester United in Houston on Wednesday.
The 20-year-old is coming away with the title of one of the best young players in the world and he says he is confident he will live up to that claim.
“I was confident coming here because I know how good the players are,” Bellingham told reporters at the NRG Stadium as quoted by ESPN.
“I know the quality I can bring and I feel I have been put in. The role I play is fun. I just want to keep the rhythm going into the season,” he continued.
“This is the biggest club with the best players. Expectations are high as they should be.”
“The standards that are set and the way everyone applies themselves in training, the mentality day by day. I’m enjoying it.”
Bellingham only played the first 45 minutes against United but there was still enough time for the England international to engage in a running battle with Lisandro Martinez.
Both sides prepared from the start before Martinez was booked for a yellow card for entering the ball roughly, causing players on both sides to crash.
The little altercation with Martinez was one of them, Bellingham said afterward.
“He is a brilliant player. I came on at half-time and I did this and that. But when he came to wish me all the best when he came out I respected him a lot.” That. I know what happens on the pitch stays on the pitch. I saw him at the end of the game and wished him well.”
“I can respect that when two players are trying to win for their team and can come together and respect after the game. He is a great competitor and a great player. Just like me, he wants to win. Sometimes it spills over. It’s part of the game. I a lot of respect. We were able to have that moment after the game.”
