Bayern Munich on Tuesday announced the appointment of RB Leipzig Julian Nagelsmann as coach with the ambition of returning to the top of world football.
The 33-year-old has signed a five-year contract worth 25 million plus bonuses, according to press reports. Nagelsmann replaces Hansi Flick who secured his new post as German national team.
“FC Bayern have appointed Julian Nagelsmann as their new head coach. The Bavarian-born 33-year-old will move to Munich from RB Leipzig on 1 July 2021 ahead of the new season, signing a five-year contract with the German record champions until 30 June 2026.” Bayern said in a statement.
“This comes after FC Bayern agreed to current head coach Hansi Flick’s request to have his contract terminated on 30 June 2021, two years earlier than its original expiry date.” they added.
Nagelamann moved to RB Leipzig in 2019 and has managed it in 90 games where he has recorded 53 wins, 21 draws and only 16 losses before he shone at Hoffenheim, also in the Bundesliga.
In 2016, at just 28-year-old, he became the youngest permanent coach in Bundesliga history. He is also the youngest to coach in the history of the Champions League.
Meanwhile, Flick left the Bavarians after having managed to make history last season, where he won Bundesliga, German Cup, Super Cup, Champions League, European Super Cup and World Club Cup.
“The last two years will be unforgettable for me. I really enjoyed the emotions, the victories, the titles, but also the daily work on the field, it was an exceptional moment.” Flick said.
“I wish the FC Bayern family the best for the future. It is not an empty phrase when I say: It was a great honor for me,” Flick added.
