Kyrie Irving is set to return to the Brooklyn Nets after away due to his controversial comments.
According to reports, the star has completed the process of being suspended by the team after a two-week away. He is expected to be on court next Sunday, when the New York team hosts the Memphis Grizzlies.
Irving has been away from the team for about a week after refusing to apologise or denounce an antisemitic documentary he shared on social media.
He was suspended by the franchise for promoting a work with antisemitic ideas. His attitude provoked a reaction from the Jewish community, while his removal was criticised by league athletes.
The Nets planned a six-step plan for his return to the team. The Players Association intervened to mediate the weird situation.
“Kyrie is continuing his journey of dialogue and education,” National Basketball Players Association executive director Tamika Tremaglio told ESPN on Wednesday night.
“He has been grappling with the full weight of the impact of his voice and actions, particularly in the Jewish community.
“Kyrie rejects antisemitism in any form, and he’s dedicated to bettering himself and increasing his level of understanding.” he added.
The point guard would never play for the Nets while. However, it appears that one more problem involving the athlete has been resolved – with the promise of being the last one.
“He plans to continue this journey well into the future to ensure that his words and actions align with his pursuit of truth and knowledge.” Tremaglio said.
Irving returning to the Nets should mean an improvement for the team, but it doesn’t. The New Yorkers, after all, have won four of their seven games without the point guard and are on the rebound for the season. They had, before, two wins in eight matches under coach Steve Nash.
