Spanish national team coach Luis Enrique The coach Luis Enrique, was angry at the press conference before the friendly against Iceland, this Tuesday. The reason was the question about a possible negotiation between him and Manchester United.
United have reportedly stepped up their efforts to replace Ralf Rangnick at the end of the season. According to reports, The Red Devils have shortlisted Erik ten Hag, Luis Enrique, and Julen Lopetegui for the job.
Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain coach Mauricio Pochettino is also in the frame. Pochettino had initially been the favourite for the United job.
“I’ll be in Qatar with Spain because I’ve given my word and there’s nothing that makes me more excited than representing my country at the World Cup,” Luis Enrique said.
“And even more so with this national team and with this federation. I can say it louder, but not more clearly. I am where I want to be.” he added.
Since Enrique arrived in the Barça dugout in 2014, Barcelona have won the Champions League (2014/15), two Ligas (2014/15 and 2015/16), two Copas del Rey (2014/15 and 2015/16), a Spanish Super Cup (2015), a European Super Cup (2015) and a Club World Cup (2015).
The 50-year-old coach has been in charge of the Spanish national team since July 2018 and has a 71.4% success rate in charge. At the press conference, he also praised midfielder Pedri, Barcelona’s standout this season.
“I see him as being a player who’s on an upward trajectory. Even though he’s not been playing regularly [due to injury this season].” Enrique said.
“It’s a pleasure to have players of his profile, he brings different things. He’s being encouraged to go for goal more and I’m very happy to have him in the national team.” Enrique added.
Spain has secured itself in the Qatar World Cup as the leader of its group in the European Qualifiers.
