Playing the first match since the Australian Open this season Keys quickly overcame compatriot Caroline Dolehide at Volvo Car Stadium.

Last season’s Volvo Car Open champion Keys who had no chance of defending his title to Arpil this season, won nine of the first 10 games to win a 6-1, 3-0 lead only to see Dolehide bounce back and force a decisive set.

“It was an up and down match,” Keys said after claiming a 6-1, 7-6, 10-4 victory over Dolehide.

“I haven’t played a match in a really long time and I am certainly very nervous and I think it seems obvious, but I am really happy to be able to claim victory and offer more points for my team. “
