Repsol Honda Marc Marquez to miss Qatar and Doha Grand Prix. He could return in Portimao Grand Prix, on April 18, 2021.

During the Repsol Honda team launch, Marquez had stated quite clearly that he would listen to his doctors and follow their advice.

“In the review carried out on the rider Marc Marquez by the medical team led by doctors Samuel Antuna and Ignacio Roger de Ona, and made up of doctors De Miguel, Ibarzabal and Garcia Villanueva,” Honda said in a statement.

“15 weeks after surgery for an infected pseudoarthrosis of the humerus Right, a good clinical response has been found.

“However, the doctors consider it prudent and necessary not to accelerate the return of Marquez to the track after a long period of inactivity, thus avoiding putting the humerus at risk in a great effort.” Honda added.

Marquez will undergo another medical check on Monday, April 12 and it, therefore, looks highly unlikely that the eight-time World Champion will feature at the Doha Grand Prix as well.

“After the last review with the medical team, the doctors have advised me that the most prudent thing was not to take part in the Qatar Grand Prix and to continue with the recovery plan that we have followed in recent weeks.” Marquez said.

“I would have loved to be able to participate in the opening race of the World Championship, but we will have to continue working to be able to recover the optimal conditions that allow us to return to competition.” Marquez added.

Stefan Bradl is likely to be present at the 2021 Qatar Grand Prix again be the obvious choice if a replacement is needed for the opening race weekend.
