“The conditions on the pitch were amazing. Thank you fans for making this match so special and creating such a great atmosphere. It’s a big win for me,” Cressy exclaimed.

The 25-year-old Cressy, who made his Eastbourne International debut this week, will next face Norrie’s compatriot Jack Draper in the semifinals. Earlier this season, the Americans qualified for the final in the Melbourne Summer Set before losing to 22-year-old Rafael Nadal.

“The last three months have been quite difficult, but I have to keep going and I know my time will come. My confidence is back and I feel proud of myself and so happy,” added Maxime Cressy.

World number 108 Draper appeared convincing when overthrowing compatriot Ryan Peniston 6-3, 6-3. In the previous round, he even beat world number 15 Diego Schwartzman and followed that with another dominant performance against his compatriot.

“I know what Maxime will show me. I’ve seen him a bit against Dan and Cam,” said Draper.

“He has been in the Challenger event for a long time. I’ve seen him in many of the same tournaments. It is very unique. He has a pretty traditional game, so it would be fun to play against him.”

In other action, the 2019 Eastbourne International champion, Taylor Fritz maintained a fine form by picking up a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik in just 67 minutes.

Third seed Fritz will now face defending champion Alex De Minaur who knocked out Fritz’s compatriot Tommy Paul 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.
