Kylian Mbappe’s dream with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) ended tragically after Les Parisiens were eliminated by Borussia Dortmund in the semifinals, Wednesday (8/5).
In the second league of the 2023/2024 Champions League semifinals, PSG lost 0-1 to Dortmund through a single goal from Mats Hummels. This defeat meant that PSG lost 0-2 on aggregate to Dortmund and were eliminated from this season’s Champions League.
Of the many opportunities created by PSG, there were four moments when PSG players’ kicks hit the post and crossbar. This of course seems to be a form of ‘unlucky day’ for PSG.
With this defeat, Mbappe’s dream of winning the Big Ear as the most prestigious trophy between European clubs disappeared. Since joining PSG in 2017, Mbappe has never won the Champions League.
When he joined PSG from AS Monaco on loan situation in 2017, Mbappe said his dream was to win every major tournament with the French capital club.
“I am very happy to be joining a club of this size. This is the perfect project for me to continue developing and learning. I will play with great players who have won everything in France and some who have won a lot abroad,” said Mbappe.
PSG itself, since being taken over by Qatar Sports Investment in 2011, has had the ambition to win the Champions League. However, to date their best achievement is runner up in the 2019/2020 season.
The arrival of players of the caliber of Neymar to Lionel Messi did not help Mbappe win the Champions League at PSG.
So far there has been no sign of extending Mbappe’s contract with PSG. Mbappe officially joined PSG in 2018 with the hope of winning the Champions League. But until now his best achievement is only runner up in the 2019/2020 Champions League.
With all the controversy plus the failure to win the Champions League this season, Mbappe could end his career with PSG tragically.
