Muhammad Ali’s Grandson Debut in Boxing Resulted in TKO

Muhammad Ali’s grandson, Nico Ali Walsh, successfully won a technical knock out (TKO) in his first professional boxing duel. Nico Ali Walsh made his debut as a boxer by facing Jordan Weeks at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States, on Saturday (14/8/2021).

The super middleweight duel is scheduled to last for four rounds. However, Nico Ali Walsh, who is now 21 years old, only needed one round. To be exact, in 1 minute 49 seconds he overthrow Jordan Weeks.

At the start of the first round, Nico Ali Walsh had already won points through two right-handed punches and a left hook. When the fight went on for 1 minute 11 seconds, Nico Ali Walsh managed to make Jordan Weeks fall with a right jab.

Jordan Weeks who looked surprised could only smile as he tried to get up and stand up. As the fight continued, Nico Ali Walsh continued to pound Jordan Weeks with a right jab and a left hook.

The attack left Jordan Weeks defenseless and could only cover his face with both hands. Nico Ali Walsh was finally declared victorious by TKO because Jordan Weeks could not defend himself.

Nico Ali Walsh became the second boxer to beat Jordan Weeks after Ricardo Vasquez Becceril. Overall, Jordan Weeks’ record, now 29, is four wins and two losses

On the other hand, Nico Ali Walsh managed to complete his professional boxing debut with a TKO victory. Nico Ali Walsh is the son of Robert Walsh and Rasheda Ali Walsh, daughter of Muhammad Ali.

Exactly in June 2021, Nico Ali Walsh officially signed a cooperation contract with legendary boxing promoter from the United States, Bob Arum. The collaboration was very interesting because Bob Arum was recorded to have handled 27 Muhammad Ali fights.

After defeating Jordan Weeks, Nico Ali Walsh looked very touched because he could follow in his grandfather’s footsteps to become a professional boxer. Nico Ali Walsh was even more moved because he managed to win when wearing his grandfather’s shorts.

“This is really in line with my expectations,” said Nico Ali Walsh quoted from The Athletic website. “My journey to get to this point (debut) was very emotional. I always think of and miss my grandfather. Maybe people see me facing a lot of pressure for being Muhammad Ali’s grandson. However, he is just a grandfather to me.”

“To everyone, Muhammad Ali was a great boxing legend. But to me, he was the greatest grandfather. I will never wear these pants again. These are my grandfather’s pants. As I said, this fight was very emotional. This is my dream come true. This win means a lot to me.”, Nico said.
