Novak Djokovic Says He Wants to Make History in Tennis

Former world number one Novak Djokovic admitted that the best in emotional match will be judged by fans and history than by anyone’s opinion.

Speaking to a press conference before playing the opening match of the Rolex Paris Masters, Djokovic said he played tennis because he wanted to make history.

“There are many factors to determine the best tennis player of all time. I will leave that to the public, history to judge.” Djokovic said.

In his first Rolex Paris Masters match in Paris, Djokovic will take on Maxime Cressy. Throughout his career, he has had great success at this tournament. The Serbian icon has won the title a record six times, including in his past two appearances in 2019 and 2021.

“I feel great in this tournament. As you mentioned, I’ve had lots of success. It always helps to come into the tournament confident and with some good memories, good emotions on the court.” Djokovic said.

“The past few times that I played here, I won both tournaments. Hopefully I can continue that run.” Djokovic added.

Djokovic is in high form, winning two consecutive indoor hard court tournaments in Tel Aviv and Astana. The 35-year-old tennis player insists he has not thought about retiring.

“I want to retire as late as possible. In two weeks I will be playing in the ATP Finals to chase Roger Federer’s record of six championships.” Djokovic said.

“I always want to thank Federer for what he left behind and hope to have a beautiful retirement moment like him.” he added.

Djokovic insisted that he still intends to compete in Australia in January despite spending days in detention, being questioned about the reasons for his deduction, and avoiding quarantining after a positive test.

“I want to go there. This time, I am even more motivated and I’m hoping to get a positive answer.” Djokovic said.
