Official: Khabib 100 Percent Retired from UFC

Khabib Nurmagomedov is confirmed by UFC President Dana White 100 percent retiring from UFC. White failed to convince Khabib to return to fight in the UFC.

White announced the confirmation through his Twitter account. White said Khabib had 100 percent retired from the UFC.

“29-0 [Khabib’s record] is over. He is 100 percent officially retired,” White said while uploading a photo together with Khabib via Twitter.

White had expressed confidence in persuading Khabib to return to fight at the UFC after deciding to retire after the victory over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, last October 24.

However, White’s efforts were fruitless. Although several times persuade Khabib with attractive offers, including a rematch against Conor McGregor, White failed to convince The Eagle.

“It’s amazing to see your work, Khabib. Thank you for everything and enjoy your next life, my friend,” said White.

The Russian fighter thanked Dana White and UFC for the opportunity. Khabib met with White and was accompanied by his manager, Ali Abdelaziz.

“It’s been a great dinner with some great people. Dana White, thank you my brothers and the entire UFC team for the opportunity to prove myself. You all changed my life forever because of this sport,” said Khabib.

“Dana, I will not forget your attitude, my father will not forget and my son will remember you. Today there has been a serious conversation between real men,” said Khabib.

Khabib then hoped that White, the UFC, and its supporters would accept the decision.

“I also want to thank all my team members, sparring partners and fans. I hope all of you can accept and understand my decision,” said Khabib.

Khabib first declared his retirement after the victory over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, 24 October. However, White still believes he can persuade Khabib. That’s why White didn’t remove Khabib from the top of the UFC lightweight and pound for pound fighter.

With White declaring Khabib officially retiring, the UFC world lightweight title is currently vacant. Then the UFC will bring together two fighters to fight for the title.

Currently the UFC lightweight rankings under Khabib are Dustin Poirier, Justin Gaethje, Charles Oliveira, and new fighter Michael Chandler.

Meanwhile, Conor McGregor is in sixth position, under Tony Ferguson. Khabib himself admitted that he chose to retire because he saw that there were no challenges in the UFC light class.
