Spanish manager Pep Guardiola has admitted that Manchester City will need to sign a striker for the upcoming season.
The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager has accepted that the matter has not been discussed much because the team is in a winning moment.
“I think we need a new striker, without a doubt. I don’t agree with you [journalists].” Guardiola said.
“You say we play fantastically well without a spearhead, but that’s because we’re winning. When we don’t win, you say we need a spearhead. fixed forward. We try, but sometimes it’s not possible” Guardiola added.
In January, the Skyblues secured the signing of highly-rated River Plate forward Julian Alvarez, and the Argentine could move to the Etihad Stadium this summer, ahead of the 2022/23 season.
Guardiola meanwhile has been playing Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden in attack this season.
Harry Kane and Erling Haaland are set to be among the names dominating transfer talk once again this summer, after both were closely linked with City in 2021.
“I love to work with that when everyone’s involved. It’s difficult for me to be manager with 18, 19, 20 top-class players with every weekend nine or ten on the bench. It’s impossible to handle it for a long, long time.” Guardiola said
“We need one and I think the club will try. It hasn’t happened yet, but we are also adapting and we don’t complain. I like the players I have, I admire them,” he added
City are top of the league and but need a victory to keep Liverpool at bay. Guardiola believed his side may have to win all of their remaining Premier League games in order to stave off Liverpool.
City sealed a comfortable 4-1 win against Manchester United in an English Premier League derby on Sunday.
