Premier League Results: Liverpool Beat Burnley 2-0

Liverpool won 2-0 over Burnley thanks to goals from Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane in the second week of the Premier League at Anfield Stadium, Saturday (21/8).

This result makes Liverpool continue the winning trend in the first week ago. The Reds beat Norwich City 3-0 in the first week of the Premier League.

Liverpool opened the scoring through Diogo Jota’s goal when the first half went 18 minutes. Jota calmly converted Kostas Tsimikas’ cross with a header that rattled the Burnley goal.

Nine minutes later, Liverpool again thrilled the Burnley goal through Mohamed Salah.

However, the goal was disallowed by the referee because Salah was already in an offside position when he received Harvey Elliott’s through ball.

In the second half, Liverpool appeared more convincing to continue to press Burnley. Three opportunities were obtained by Liverpool at the start of the second half through Sadio Mane, Virgil van Dijk and Salah but did not end in goals.

Liverpool again created opportunities through Mane in the 62nd minute. This time, Mane’s shot after receiving Jota’s pass could still be tamed by Nick Pope.

Mane no longer squandered the opportunity he got seven minutes later. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s breakthrough bait was met by Mane’s first time kick in the penalty box which broke into Burnley’s goal and changed the score to 2-0.

Liverpool continued to exert pressure despite winning 2-0 over Burnley. Instead Burnley only occasionally put pressure on and had time to create opportunities through Dwight McNeil towards the end of the second half.

McNeil fired speculation from outside the penalty box which is still wide on the left side of the Liverpool goal. After that no more goals were created and Liverpool closed the game with a score of 2-0.

Liverpool currently occupy the top of the Premier League standings by collecting six points.
