Premier League results: Tottenham draw against Wolverhampton

Tottenham Hotspur drew 1-1 with Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League continued match at Molineux Stadium, Monday (28/12).

Tottenham took less than a minute to take the lead. Starting from a corner kick, Tanguy Ndombele scored a goal from outside the penalty box.

After Ndombele’s goal, Wolverhampton and Tottenham were involved in a tough duel. The hosts tried to respond from behind and the visitors tried to put in their best performance to add to the lead.

Wolves’ resistance never found a golden opportunity in the Tottenham defense area. Meanwhile, The Lilywhites also had difficulty controlling the midfield.

Excellence in ball possession does not necessarily allow Wolverhampton to dismantle Tottenham’s defense. A weak final pass is a problem for Wolves.

The situation did not change in the second half. Wolves strive to play with ball possession, while Tottenham play direct football relying on individual player skills.

The combination of Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, Adama Traore, Daniel Podence, Pedro Neto and Fabio Silva did not go perfectly.

Meanwhile, Harry Kane and Son Heung Min did not get maximum support from their colleagues.

Wolverhampton effort to score a new goal materialized in the 86th minute. Romain Saiss met Pedro Neto’s corner with a header and left Hugo Lloris in the dark.

1-1 score is the final result in this match. Tottenham are in sixth place with 26 points and Wolves are in 11th place with 21 points.

Tottenham Hotspur coach Jose Mourinho admitted that he was disappointed with his team’s inability to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers. Mourinho thinks his team cannot take advantage of the success of scoring goals in the first minute.

“Yes [I’m angry]. On the one hand, against Wolves of course it will not be a bad result if we get one point because they are a strong team.”

“But being able to score a goal in the first minute and be able to control the match in the remaining time to get an additional goal for 89 minutes of course this result is frustrating,” said Mourinho to Sky Sports, quoted from the talksport.

Mourinho then did not want to answer much when presented with the fact that Tottenham’s last shot was on target in the 21st minute of the match.

“I don’t want to talk much. I know how I prepare the team, I know what I ask the players, I know what I say to them at half-time. I know all that and I don’t want to talk more than that.”

“I certainly give Wolves a compliment, because when they are behind, they put some pressure on. We can handle the pressure well, control the game very, very well. But we have no ambition, the passion to do more than that,” said Mourinho. .

Meanwhile Wolves’ goalscorer Romain Saiss stated that his team was also disappointed by the draw. For Saiss, his team deserved to win.

“I think we can also be disappointed because we started the game and conceded easily. I think we should be able to avoid goals like this, it’s really hard to come back after conceding against a team like Tottenham.”

“But I think that with our success in mastering the game, we deserved more [wins] because we had a lot of chances and only scored one goal.”
