West Ham coach, David Moyes, is reportedly going to try again to bring in Manchester United defender, Harry Maguire, in the next summer transfer market.
The Hammers came close to signing the 31-year-old defender last summer, after both parties agreed a deal worth £30 million.
Unfortunately, in the final minutes of the transfer window closing, the deal never materialized, with the centre-back, who was stripped of the Man United captaincy last season, demanding a fee of £7 million from West Ham to leave the club.
A report from The Sun now claims that Moyes will step up his efforts to sign Maguire this summer, with a price tag of between £15-20 million.
Maguire’s contract at Old Trafford expires in June 2025 and The Sun claims that Moyes is very interested in bringing in a defender who can win aerial duels.
And the Scottish coach plans to offer him a contract for two or three years. It would be a lucrative deal for the defender, who has missed Man United’s last three games through injury.
Maguire, who has endured a difficult couple of seasons at Man United amid a lack of playing time, has appeared in 23 games for the Red Devils so far this season, scoring in their 2-1 defeat to Fulham in February.
The defender, who struggled to break into Ten Hag’s side last season, was close to a move to the Hammers in the summer, but talks collapsed after they grew tired of waiting for the former Leicester defender to agree terms to leave the club.
Ten Hag has valued Maguire as a key player in his squad, despite stripping the Man United captaincy from the 31-year-old and handing it to Bruno Fernandes.
The Dutchman claimed that Maguire would benefit from losing the captaincy, with the defender going on to enjoy a much better season with the Red Devils, having made just eight starts for United in the 2022-23 season after being knocked out of the first team.
West Ham, who already have Konstantinos Mavropanos, Kurt Zouma, Angelo Ogbonna and Nayef Aguerd in the same position, hope Maguire’s asking price falls this summer.
