Rennie to be back as Albon’s race Engineer

Rennie to be back as Albons Race Engineer

Simon Rennie is returning to Red Bull Formula 1 team, which has reorganized its technical team. He will be serving as Alex Albon’s race engineer at British Grand Prix this weekend.

Mark Webber’s final campaign in 2013 was handled by Rennie, which made him reputable. Additionally, he supported Daniel Ricciardo during his engagement with Red Bull during 2014 and 2018. He helped the Australian to win races at F1.

His move to take a back seat at the Factory was one of the reason for Riccirado’s decision. Australian driver left the Red Bull at the end of 2018 and switched to Renault. He will be moving to McLaren in 2021.

Albon struggled this year and failed to qualify for Hungarian Grand Prix Q3. Red Bull decided to bring back Rennie for help and to revive Thai driver’s performance during his second year at the team.

Mike Lug, Albon race driver to be replaced, will serve at the Red Bull factory.

Last year, Red Bull challenge the duo of Mercedes and Ferrari. It won three races and improved RB15 to the league status. Similar results were expected from the team this year. But they failed to deliver due to aerodynamic anomaly.

Albon is confident that the team would revive soon and will challenge other teams at the British Grand Prix. The double header would start on the weekend with 70th Anniversary Grand Prix.

“Obviously as a team it hasn’t been an ideal start to the season but aside from the DNF, we’ve been able to score some good points,” said Albon. He had to retired from Austrian Grand Prix with a power unit failure.

“I think with that being said, the car can only improve so I’m feeling positive.

“We know the areas we need to work on and with Silverstone being a home race close to the factory, that’s good news.

“I think we can hopefully get a good result there.

“Historically it’s been a pretty good track for the team, and it’s one I really enjoy driving.”
