Rome Masters 2022: Novak Djokovic Will Be Allowed to Play Unvaccinated

Novak Djokovic will be allowed to play the Rome Masters 2022 even though he has not been vaccinated against the COVID-19.

The world No. 1 tennis player was banned from entering Australia and unable to attend the 2022 Australian Open due to not being vaccinated against COVID-19.

Djokovic continued to cause controversy. According to reports, the Serbian star confirmed that he would not be vaccinated and was ready to sacrifice the Grand Slam tournaments. This is a huge threat to this player’s world No.

However, the Serbian icon is receiving good news from tournaments in turn. After Wimbledon, the Rome Masters recently welcome Djokovic to the tournament, despite his lack of vaccinations. This information was confirmed by the Italian Deputy Minister of Sports, Valentina Vezzali on La Repubblica.

“For tennis, the regulations on enhanced green cards have not been applied. So if Djokovic wants to go to the Rome Masters 2022, he can absolutely do it.” Vezzali said.

A COVID-19 green card is a certificate of vaccination against COVID-19. Italy currently has a two-tiered green card system: Enhanced Green Cards (also known as Super Green Cards) are issued to people who have been vaccinated or recovered from COVID-19, while green cards are issued to those negative test results, valid for 48 hours if rapid test is used and valid for 72 hours if PCR test or molecular test is used.

However, with the above statement of the Italian Deputy Minister of Sports, Djokovic will be allowed to go to Italy to attend the Rome Masters 2022. In the past, he was crowned here in 5 seasons including 2008, 2011, 2014, 2015, 2020. Djokovic reached the final but losing out to ‘Big Three’ rival Rafael Nadal in 2019 and 2021.
