Romelu Lukaku, We Still Love You

Chelsea managed to silence their guest Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg, on Thursday. In that match Chelsea won over Tottenham with a score of 2-0. Kai Havertz scored Chelsea’s first goal. While the second goal was a contribution from Tottenham player Benjamin Thomas Davies. Both Chelsea goals were created in the first half.

Chelsea took the lead in that match. In the 5th minute, from outside the Tottenham penalty box Marcos Alonso sent the ball to Havertz. Alonso’s bait ball was actually almost controlled by Tottenham defender Japhet Taganga. But Havertz quickly hunted down and controlled the ball which was already on the right side of Hugo Lloris’ goal. With his left foot Havertz cheated the ball quite hard.

Another Tottenham defender, Davinson Sanchez tried to save Lloris’ goal by blocking Havertz’s ball that almost went into Lloris’ goal mouth. But the ball still slid into the middle of the goal. Chelsea 1, Tottenham 0. Entering the 34th minute Romelu Lukaku was fouled by Davinson Sanchez, a few meters on the left-front of the Tottenham penalty box. It was fruitful free kick for Chelsea.
Free kick taken by Hakim Ziyech. Ziyech then sent the ball right in front of Lloris’s goal mouth. Japhet Taganga tries to block the ball with his head. But unlucky, the ball that was pushed out by Tanganga actually hit Benjamin Thomas Davies’ head. The ball slid smoothly into the goal of Lloris. Chelsea 2, Tottenham 0.

After Davies’ own goal no more goals were created. Both in the first half and in the second half. Chelsea also lead 2-0 over Tottenham. With this victory, Chelsea’s steps to the Carabao Cup final were practically lighter. In the second leg semi-final at home to Tottenham, Thursday, Chelsea only need to draw or lose by one goal.

In addition to the match between Chelsea versus Tottenham itself, there are other things that are quite interesting in that match. Several Chelsea supporters seem to be brandishing pictures of Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku. The picture reads, “Romelu Lukaku, We Still Love You”.
What Chelsea supporters did seems to be a response to Lukaku’s statement some time ago. It can also be understood as a form of “apology” for Lukaku’s statement which is considered by some to have hurt Chelsea and their supporters. As it is known that a few days ago, Lukaku had revealed that he did not feel at home at Chelsea and wanted to return to strengthening Inter Milan. Lukaku’s statement reaped various responses.

The Chelsea dressing room heats up. Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel was angry and rebuked Lukaku. As a result, Tuchel did not play Lukaku when Chelsea faced Liverpool in the boxing day match, Sunday. Inter supporters who were angry over Lukaku’s departure to Chelsea balked at Lukaku’s wishes. While many Chelsea supporters themselves are disappointed and inflamed.
Realizing that his statement had caused a commotion, Lukaku then apologized. Including the Chelsea fans. An apology from Lukaku and the response of Chelsea supporters stating “Romelu Lukaku, We Still Love You” can be interpreted that both parties still love each other. In this case, in the future, Lukaku must not repeat his actions by making other statements that hurt Chelsea supporters.
