Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman admitted that he was impressed by the improvement in Frenkie De Jong’s performance in the current squad for the Catalunya club. He did not even deny that the 23-year-old midfielder was one of the important players in Barcelona’s midfield.
De Jong again had a big influence in Barcelona’s game. This time, he showed this when helping the Blaugrana beat Granada in the Copa del Rey 2020-2021, Thursday (4/2/2021) early this morning.
De Jong’s big contribution led Barcelona to the semifinals of the Copa del Rey 2020-2021. The midfielder with the Dutch passport also contributed one goal when the Catalan team faced Granadai in the quarter-finals this morning.
As a result, Barcelona, who were already two goals behind, managed to get up to turn things around. The Catalan team closed the match with a convincing 5-3 win.
After the match, Koeman gave an assessment to the players. One of the highlights of the Dutch coach is the impressive performance that De Jong has shown on the field. Not only contributing goals, Koeman considered De Jong’s game to be extraordinary and often created opportunities for other Barcelona players.
De Jong’s performance also showered him with many compliments, including from the coach. Koeman even assessed that currently De Jong has developed very well compared to when he was still at Ajax Amsterdam.
Judging from these records, it is no wonder that Ronald Koeman trusted his team’s midfield in De Jong. The former Ajax Amsterdam player has almost never been absent at every Barcelona game this season.
“We need him (De Jong). We need midfielders to attack. He has a lot of technical quality and he helps from within,” Koeman said as quoted from the Marca website.
“We have spoken with him about helping in attack and scoring more than one goal in a season. He’s a more complete player now than when he played for Ajax. He creates and prints more, “he said.
