Ronaldo: I won five Champions League trophies, Atletico Zero

Ronaldo: I won five Champions League trophies, Atletico Zero

Cristiano Ronaldo got the spotlight after he waved five fingers at Atletico Madrid supporters in the first leg of the Champions League last 16. When asked by reporters, Ronaldo reiterated this.

Ronaldo was hit hard when he led Juventus to Wanda Metropolitano. Ronaldo, who has a good record against Atletico, was unable to continue this in the Champions League last 16 first leg.

Juventus returned with a 0-2 defeat to Atletico. Both Atletico’s winning goals were scored by Jose Gimenez and Diego Godin. The defeat made Juventus have to work hard in the second leg in Turin next month.

Because of the ridicule from Atletico supporters, Ronaldo then waved five fingers towards the Los Rojiblancos supporters. Ronaldo then confirmed the intention when asked by reporters in the mixed zone after the match.

“I got five Champions League trophies and Atletico hasn’t won the title,” Ronaldo said, quoted from Football Espana.

The action of the player nicknamed CR7 seemed to make Los Rojiblancos officials angry. President Enrique Cerezo even came to ‘intervene’ to give his response.

“It was a great match, even though the results were a little tight. With his gesture [Ronaldo], because in such a tense moment I understood [his attitude] and did not condemn him,” Cerezo told Radio CRC quoted by Sportskeeda.

“I feel the need to say that Cholism is everything for Atletico Madrid,” Cerezo added.

Nevertheless Cerezo did not agree with Ronaldo’s statement that he had five Champions League titles.

“Another small clarification is, Cristiano Ronaldo hasn’t won five Champions League at all. But only three, two are left against Atletico, he hasn’t really won that [Champions League],” Cerezo said.

Ronaldo can adapt well at Juventus and this is proven by a record of 19 goals in the Italian League. But in the Champions League event, Ronaldo has not been able to prove his sharpness. In fact, Ronaldo is the top scorer in Champions League history.

So far Ronaldo has only scored one goal in European elite level competition. Ronaldo’s performance in the Champions League was also less impressive because he was hit by a red card in the match against Valencia which made him get a one-match ban.

However, Ronaldo still has a chance to turn this difficult situation upside down. Ronaldo and Juventus will replace the hosts in the second leg at the Allianz Stadium. Ronaldo and his friends needed a victory with a difference of three goals to be able to win tickets to the quarter-finals.
