Sadio Mane said last season’s experience in the Champions League final would motivate the Liverpool squad to win Tottenham.
Liverpool’s last season surprised many parties. Jurgen Klopp’s troops were able to advance to the Champions League final.
In the final, they face Real Madrid. Liverpool actually called to have a chance to beat the defending champions.
But Liverpool was shunned by Fortuna Goddess. In the first round they were left injured by Mohamed Salah.
After that Loris Karius made two fatal blunders. In the end Liverpool were defeated by a score of 3-1.
Liverpool had also previously played in the Europa League final. So from that the Reds are seeded will be able to win over Tottenham thanks to his experience.
Some Liverpool players such as Andrew Robertson and Georginio Wijnaldum said the experience would not make the Reds more likely to become champions than Tottenham. But Mane thinks otherwise.
“We were a little disappointed because we wanted to win the Champions League last year, which didn’t happen. Real Madrid is a better team,” he said as reported by Sky Sports.
“We still have a lot of things there. So let’s use this experience from last season to do everything to win against Tottenham,” said Mane.
Liverpool itself has not won the championship for a long time. Now they are predicted to be able to win the Champions League trophy, because it is their only chance to end the season brilliantly.
That could be a separate pressure for the Liverpool squad. But Mane insisted that all of his colleagues did not feel pressured.
“This is extra motivation, but not pressure, because it never helps,” Mane said. “At Liverpool, we don’t have this problem,” he stressed.
“We are always hungry, always wanting to give everything to win the match. So I think that is not pressure, just motivation,” he concluded.
