Shelby Rogers Forces Johanna Konta to Pack Earlier Than Adelaide

Shelby Rogers Non-seeded has a convincing second round of the Adelaide International 2021 season after successfully knocking out the seed.

The US tennis player appeared dominant when picking a 6-2, 6-2 victory over third seed Johanna Konta, so that the US tennis player has the right to advance to the quarterfinals of Adelaide International.

The world number 53 performed almost flawlessly against British national Konta after only 2 unforced errors in the first set and 8 in the second for a total of 23 winners.

Konta is playing her first match since the stomach injury that forced her to withdraw from the first round of the Australian Open two weeks ago against Kaja Juvan and she has not yet been able to find a rhythm against such a mighty American.

“I couldn’t feel much better than that,” exclaimed Rogers who made it to the fourth round of the Australian Open this season.

“I hope I can defend it in the next game.”

The world number 53 overcame Konta’s serve well and broke it on four occasions thanks to world-class returns. He was able to dominate his own serve in the first set after dropping just four points, but he had to endure more pressure in the second.

However, this did not prevent him from taking his steps. He faced break point chances in three different games and managed to secure his run thanks to powerful serve.

For a place in the semifinals of Adelaide International, Rogers will next face sixth seed Petra Martic or compatriot Cori Gauff.

In other action, seventh seed Yulia Putintseva fared better after eliminating German national Laura Siegemund 6-4, 6-4 in the first round of Adelaide International.

“I’ve never met a tough opponent who tried to do everything he could to win a game. He does everything on the pitch, slice, dropshot, hit the net. So, I mentally prepared myself for a game with no rhythm at all. I’m just trying to move my legs as fast as possible and find the right shot to finish it,” explained Putintseva.

In the second half, Putintseva will face home qualifier Storm Sanders who beat compatriot Ajla Tomljanovic 6-1, 6-2. Meanwhile, Misaki Doi recorded her Adelaide International second round match against second seed Belinda Bencic thanks to a 7-6, 3-6, 6-2 win over Anna Blinkova.
