Still Makes Sense, Rossi Will Not Recklessly Join 2021 MotoGP

Failing to test the ability to compete in MotoGP 2020, Valentino Rossi spread hopes of appearing in MotoGP 2021.

Rossi’s plan to make the MotoGP 2020 as a place to determine the future was destroyed because of the corona virus pandemic which disrupted the schedule.

There was no race until the last weekend of April. Though we should have seen four races, Qatar MotoGP (8 March), Thailand MotoGP (22 March), United States MotoGP (5 April), and Argentine MotoGP (19 April).

Until now there is also no certainty when Rossi will compete against young riders as well as his rivals.

As the wave of pandemic slowly subsided, the organizers of MotoGP began to make an opportunity to start a delayed start. CEO Dorna Carmelo Ezpeleta is optimistic that the 2020 MotoGP can be held at the end of July by holding races in Europe.

Optimism also spreads. Rossi opened his hopes to continue his career in the coming year while increasing his service period at the leading motor racing event.

“The problem is there is no race at the moment. I think I will make a decision before the race, because there is an optimistic atmosphere we can race in August or September if everything is fine.”

“I have to make a decision before the race. I want to continue. It is not the best way to retire because we also might not race in 2020. It would be fairer if I undergo one more season and maybe stop after next season. I hope to continue in 2021,” Rossi said quoted from Crash last weekend.

Rossi looked still itching to spur an iron horse to compete with Marc Marquez, Andrea Dovizioso, Maverick Vinales, Fabio Quartararo, Alex Rins and others.

Disappointing results in 2019 MotoGP does not bode Rossi to end a career that has been built since more than 20 years ago. On the contrary, curiosity is still fuel for The Doctor driving motorbikes.

Rossi is not a typical person who is affected by statistics and results. If you consider the importance of past records, it is quite possible Rossi will hang a racing jacket since a few years ago because he no longer became a world champion since 2009.

The fact that only 10 times won the series after the presence of Marquez or never finish in the forefront after the 2017 Dutch MotoGP also does not seem a feasible study to analyze the future.

Rossi, who clearly still has the guts. The former Honda and Ducati racer did not want to finish giving entertainment to fans who slowly began to understand the fading starlight.

If Rossi really performs in the 2021 MotoGP race, it cannot be predicted whether he will have difficulty competing or be able to give a new color in the race for the title monopolized by Marquez and Honda in more than half a decade.

If Rossi rides a motorcycle with a start number 46 in the coming season, it means he can’t forget Petronas Yamaha as a candidate for Rossi’s new team.

Although Yamaha once said it would support Rossi’s choice by providing the best motorbike and team, the transition from the Monsters Energy team which is the manufacturing team to the Petronas team which became the satellite team would certainly make a difference.

Previously, in the pre-season MotoGP 2020, Rossi was also often flattering optimism regarding motor performance. The presence of David Munoz as the new crew chief shows the seriousness of Rossi entering the new season, as well as support from the Yamaha team through technical improvements in the electronics, acceleration and tire sectors and the presence of Jorge Lorenzo.

Heading into next year’s racing season, Rossi is also likely to make serious preparations even though it does not always end with good results.

Trying to get maximum in the midst of an uneasy rivalry is something that makes sense for drivers who will be 42 years old next year and are still being cheered by supporters.
