The French national team met with the Australian national team again in the 2022 World Cup group phase. Seeing this condition, the French national team player, Olivier Giroud, reacted. Despite the success of achieving sweet results in the previous meeting, Giroud is reluctant to underestimate Australia at the 2022 World Cup.
The meeting of the French national team against Australia will be presented at the Al Janoub Stadium, Wednesday 23 November 2022. However, this is not their first meeting.
France has previously played against Australia in the World Cup. Finally, they met in the preliminary round of Group C of the 2018 World Cup. In that match, France managed to win with a score of 2-1.
However, this victory was not the main capital for Giroud and his friends. Because, he is not sure that the strength of the Australian national team in 2018 will be the same as this year.
“I don’t know if they have the same squad as 2018. To be honest, we haven’t studied the team yet because there are still five to six days to go,” Giroud told Fox Sports.
“We will watch the match of the opposing team with great attention so that our squad can get ready,” he said.
“But obviously, we know they (Australian National Team) are a tough team, they defend very well and have generosity. The players are also very talented and many of them are playing in Europe.”
The AC Milan striker also revealed how he felt against the Socceroos – the nickname of the Australian national team – at the 2018 World Cup. He said the first match of the year was very difficult to win.
“The first game of 2018 was very difficult to win. We felt relieved after that,” explained Giroud.
“No game is easy for us, and we have a lot of respect for the opposing team. We know how important it is to start the competition well so we do our best and try to play our best game.”
Besides Australia, France will also meet with Denmark and Tunisia. The match against Denmark will take place on November 26, 2022, while against Tunisia will take place on November 30, 2022.
