The story of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, a former Manchester United coach who turns out to be a Liverpool fan, will be reviewed by Okezone. Solskjaer is a seasoned coach who has been tactician for The Red Devils – the nickname of Manchester United – for three seasons.
Prior to becoming Manchester United coach, Solskjaer spent a decade as a player at Old Trafford and has won six Premier Leagues, two FA Cups and one Champions League. He then returned to Manchester United as a coach in 2018.
During his time as a coach, Solskjaer led Manchester United to the 2020-2021 Europa League final but had to lose to Villarreal. Recently, the story of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, a former Manchester United coach who turned out to be a Liverpool fan, made the public excited, especially Manchester United fans.
The Norwegian coach who was sacked by The Red Devils in 2021 admitted that he used to be a Liverpool fan. He made this confession in James Richardson’s Podcast Kings of Europe, quoted from Mirror, Thursday (16/2/2023).
“I must have ruined the environment because when you follow football we had Match of the Day every Saturday in Norway and of course Liverpool were the better team in the 80s,” said Solskjaer.
“They have Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush and all that stuff, so yeah I’m following Liverpool. I was one of the supporters who followed because they won everything, it’s quite hard to say as a Man United player but they were the better team in the 80s.”
The Reds -the nickname of Liverpool- itself is one of the eternal rivals for Manchester United. No wonder this confession sparked anger from Manchester United fans.
Not only that, Solskjaer apparently lied about his confession in 2016. At that time Solskjaer was asked about the veracity of reports that said he was a Liverpool supporter. The answer at that time was that he was really a Manchester United fan.
“You learn as long as you live, that is the only answer I can give you. I never confirmed that one! I am a Manchester United fan through and through. I bleed red,” Solskjaer told FourFourTwo quoted from the Mirror.
