Tyson Fury could regain his license in January

UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) on Wednesday has confirmed Tyson Fury could have his boxing license in January after an absence of two years, following his response of a backdated two-year ban over a positive test for a banned steroid.

BBC Secretary General Robert Smith, however told that the controversial British boxer, touched by depression, should “go to the board” of the BBBC.

“Before the boxing license suspension is lifted he would have to appear before the Board. There’s number of matters. There’s his mental health issues, he’s admitted he took cocaine.” Smith said.

“We’ve got to speak to Mr Fury and his management, which we haven’t done. If they contact us we can hopefully get it wrapped up in January. I presume we’ll be hearing from them shortly.

“A discussion will take place in January whether we hear from him or not, but the sooner we do, the better for everybody.

“We also have to be satisfied about Tyson’s physical well-being, that he is fir to fight, and that’s not just medically, that’s physically as well. It’s well reported he’s not in physical condition to return straight away, so he’s got a bit of work to do.” Smith added.

Fury, who has not come back in a ring since his WBA, WBO, and IBF title against Ukrain’s Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015, hoped he could fight again in next year.

The 29-year-old boxer claims that he is “the king” of the heavyweight division as he intends return to the ring after an absence of more that two years.

“Someone labeled it the four kings right now, four undefeated heavyweight fighters in myself, Anthony Joshua, Jospeh Parker, and Deontay Wilder. But I labeled it ‘three peasants and king. There’s only one king of the division and that’s me.” Fury said.

However, despite his confidence, the former heavyweight is still a long way from being fit to return to boxing. During his absence, his weight ballooned to 27 stone, and while he has lost four, but he feels he is only midway towards reaching fighting weight.

On the other hand, promoter Eddie Hearn happy to see Fury’s progress and he believes that the “Gypsy King” would have no trouble to get his title back.

“He is a big strong lad, good power, good physique, but what else can I say? There are levels to this game, and my boxing ability is way more advanced than his is.” Hearn said.
