UEFA Decides Tomorrow’s Champions League Fate

UEFA will decide the fate of the Champions League this season whether it will be rescheduled or canceled due to the corona virus pandemic at a meeting Wednesday (1/4).

Quoted from the Mirror, the 2019/2020 Champions League season can be canceled if there is no agreement in the emergency meeting.

Previously, UEFA had decided to postpone the European Cup 2020 for the next 12 months, then they would form a working group involving representatives from the association and club.

This step is an attempt to find a way to reschedule the Champions League and Europe League competition this season amid the corona virus crisis which has caused every country in Europe, except Belarus, to close their soccer league.

Reported by ESPN, 2 weeks after the initial meeting, there is no date on the calendar for the football competition activity again. At that time, UEFA decided to postpone the final of the Champions League and Europa League which had been set at the end of May in Istanbul and Gdansk.

Covid-19 pandemic made almost the schedule of football matches in Europe a mess. All top European leagues have suspended the competition and will not continue at least until early May.

The English and German leagues made a pause agreement until 30 April, while the Spanish, Italian and French leagues deferred to an undetermined deadline.

The Champions League, Europa League and European Cup 2020 are also affected by this corona virus outbreak. Therefore, in order to determine the continuation of the clubs in the Blue Continent, UEFA held a meeting on Wednesday.

“UEFA invited the Secretary General of 55 association members to a video conference on Wednesday (1/4) to share updates on the progress made by the two working groups made two weeks ago and to discuss the options identified in connection with potential match rescheduling. , “UEFA said.

According to UEFA, the meeting will not only discuss the development of club competition, but also the national team. At the same time discussing about the player’s contract and transfer system.

UEFA will stop all tournaments at UEFA if there is no agreement in the meeting later. That was said by UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin last week.

“If we fail to continue the tournament, this season may be deleted,” Ceferin said.

Even though competition tournaments in Europe, including the Champions League, continued in the middle of the corona pandemic, Ceferin ordered that the match be held in private.
