The Golden State Warriors’ last title, in 2021/22, suggested that Stephen Curry could win a few more before the end of his career.
However, the Californian team has been struggling ever since. In 2023/24, for example, the team didn’t even make the playoffs.
To make matters worse, Klay Thompson, one of the franchise’s greatest idols, left for the Dallas Mavericks. But even so, management has one goal: to make Curry a champion once again.
The Warriors’ management will spare no effort for Curry, so absolutely every other player could leave the team. According to coach Steve Kerr, only the number 30 has a guaranteed spot.
For the upcoming season, the San Francisco team has undergone several changes. In addition to Thompson, the team gave up Chris Paul’s contract and did not want to extend Dario Saric.
As a result, Paul signed with the San Antonio Spurs and Saric went to the Denver Nuggets.
However, the Warriors’ management knows that it is not enough to fight for the title.
At least the Warriors management has been working to try to change the current scenario for Stephen Curry.
Without Klay Thompson, Draymond Green was the one left alongside Curry from that team that won three titles.
Although Kevon Looney is still playing, he did not participate in the first one. But the role of the center, important a few years ago, is far from being the same.
Curry is not getting any younger and the team is not that competitive. The situation is far from good, while there are promising players on the roster. And it is not easy, since these athletes are not yet at the peak of their careers.
In this case, the Warriors need a lot more to get back to thinking about a title, especially if they still want to give Stephen Curry another one. But there are ways out.
The team owns all of the first-round picks through 2031 except for the one in 2030. But that pick has top-20 protection for the Washington Wizards.
So unless the team is rebuilding, it could return. So if the Warriors want to try to give their star player another title, they’ll want to start giving up some of those picks.
