Chelsea coach Frank Lampard revealed surprising facts about his two new players, namely Timo Werner and Kai Havertz. Lampard stated, both Werner and Havertz, are not satisfied with the position they are playing now.
Werner can play in several positions up front, but he is more inclined as a center forward. However, Lampard has not been able to play Werner in his ideal position in Chelsea’s first five matches in the 2020-2021 season.
Playing in a less than ideal position, Werner only scored one goal for Chelsea. Werner recorded his first goal for Chelsea when the Blues – nicknamed Chelsea – drew 1-1 against Tottenham Hotspur in the fourth round of the Premier League Cup. The match, which had to end in penalties, unfortunately resulted in a 4-5 defeat for Chelsea.
Meanwhile, the same thing happened to Havertz, who was all new, playing in his original position, namely attacking midfielder. Havertz played as an attacking midfielder in Chelsea’s 6-0 win over Barnsley in the Premier League Cup third round.
Havertz performed superbly standing behind the center-forward in a 4-2-3-1 formation. The former Bayer Leverkusen player even scored a hat trick against Barnsley.
Until now, Werner and Havertz are still waiting for the opportunity to play in their original positions. Lampard is also willing to play Werner and Havertz in their best positions, but that is not possible now.
Lampard said injuries to several key players meant that Werner and Havertz were unable to play in their best positions. Until the injury storm was over, Lampard asked the two new players to adapt to their current position.
“Timo (Werner) and Kai (Havertz) don’t always like their own positions, but I have a clear idea of where they are when they play. “Currently, injuries are not possible and sometimes you have to adapt to those difficult times,” said Lampard, adapting from the official Chelsea website, Saturday (3/10/2020).
The power of Werner and Havertz will be needed by Chelsea again in the fourth week of the Premier League. Chelsea will play Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge, Saturday (3/10/2020).
The match, titled the London Derby, must be won by Chelsea. Because, the Blues need an additional three points to improve their position in the standings. Chelsea are now in ninth position with a collection of four points from their first three Premier League games.
