Wilder: “Joshua has lost his reputation”

WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder (40-0-0, 39 KOs), is not worried about a possible unification fight with the WBA, IBO, WBO, and IBF champion Anthony Joshua.

The American boxer is now putting his focus on Tyson Fury (26-0-0, 19 KOs), who has won over Francesco Pianeta on Saturday night in Belfast.

According to Wilder, he has the clear impression that Joshua lost his reputation in the United States and even in England by refusing to finalize the agreement for the establishment of a fight between the two, in this November.

Both sides were unable to reach an agreement – and now Joshua will be rather opposed to his mandatory challenger, the Russian Alexander Povetkin, on September 22, at Wembley Stadium in London.

“These guys are constantly lying about so much, it’s been ridiculous. They also say that Joshua signed the contract.” Wilder told reporters.

“When Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, sent the form, there was not even the signature of Joshua’s name on the contract. There was only Eddie Hearn’s name on the contract.

“You know, at this point we have now moved on to other things, and we are happy to be where we are now. All our focus is on Tyson Fury now. We do not have Joshua anymore.

“He’s lost his reputation in America and people are waking up in England too. Everyone knows which side tried to fight. Everyone knows who really wanted to fight. Only a blind guy could not see the situation about that, and we’ve moved on now. My main focus is now on Tyson Fury.” Wilder added.

And as for the future outcome of his fight with Fury, Wilder expects a tough fight, but he also promised to knock the British boxer in mid-fight.

“Fury can cause problems to anyone. He’s tall, he has good range, and he’s hard to box. I really see this fight with Fury going in the middle rounds – it’s not going to get to the limit of 12 rounds.” Wilder said.

“There will definitely be a knockout, and that’s what I’m going to do. I think it’s going to be a very good fight. He will be in great shape. He is still an undefeated linear champion and that’s the way to see him. I take it very seriously. I’m going to take my training camp very seriously,” Wilder added.
