Wynn Resorts CEO Steve Wynn settles six year legal battle with his ex-wife

In Nevada, yesterday reportedly saw the former Chief Executive Officer for American casino operator Wynn Resorts Limited, Steve Wynn, settle his almost six-year legal battle with former wife Elaine Wynn (pictured) over claims he had breached their shareholders agreement. According to a Monday report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal newspaper, 75-year-old Elaine Wynn had helped to establish Wynn Resorts Limited but saw her standing within the company diminish after she divorced Steve Wynn for a second time in 2010.

The newspaper reported that the breach of contract civil suit from Elaine Wynn had been seeking around $460 million in compensation over additional allegations that she had not been re-nominated for a position on Wynn Resorts Limited’s board of directors in 2015 after questioning the activities of some fellow executives. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that jury selection for the action was due to start on Monday but legal experts had been predicting a settlement after Nevada Eighth Judicial District Court Judge Elizabeth Gonzalez ruled late last month that testimony damaging to Steve Wynn could be introduced. The 76-year-old resigned his post at Wynn Resorts Limited on February 6 amid numerous allegations of sexual misconduct and this ruling would have purportedly allowed jurors to hear claims that the he had agreed settlements with two supposed victims.

The newspaper reported that Gonzalez’ ruling would have moreover allowed Elaine Wynn’s legal team to introduce evidence that Wynn Resorts Limited had fired a pair of senior executives for illegal sports betting and other alleged misconduct. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that a deposition that could have also been presented to the jury was alleged to have detailed how Steve Wynn had skipped his firm’s sexual harassment training sessions after stating that ‘I don’t need it’.

Although the terms of the settlement were not released, the newspaper reported that a statement from Steve Wynn detailed that the agreement had ‘resolved all outstanding legal issues with his former wife’. He purportedly further declared that he was gratified to be ‘able to put all of the personal unpleasantness of the last few years between he and Ms Wynn behind him’. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that the settlement furthermore resolved Elaine Wynn’s claims against Wynn Resorts Limited and its Executive Vice-President, Kim Sinatra, with the operator and executive reciprocating in kind with no payments involved. “I am pleased this litigation has now been resolved,” Elaine Wynn reportedly told the newspaper.
