Alex Albon Believes German Grand Prix Incidents Was His and Red Bull’s Pierre Gasly Responsibility

Red Bull’s Pierre Gasly crashed into the back of Toro Rosso’s Alex Albon in the closing stages of Sunday’s German Grand Prix.

The contact forced the Red Bull driver to retire at Hockenheim circuit, while Albon managed to rally the finish of the race without problems.

Two laps from the end, Gasly was looking to right the wrong and move up to sixth place when he got a good run on Albon out of Hockenheim circuit.

But as he pulled to the right to overtake, Albon edged his car over to cover, the two making contact that sent Gasly skittering off into the run-off area.

Asked this Thursday in Budapest about his responsibility in this collision, Albon believes that the fault is shared between him and Gasly.

“At first, I thought I was going fast enough, especially when I watched the replay of my camera after the race.” Albon said.

“But then I watched the replay with Pierre’s camera, I just wanted to stop him from going to the left, but the difference in speed made us touch each other.

“I think I went a little too late on the right, while he went a little too early. I do not blame Peter, but I do not blame myself either. I think we are guilty at 50/50.” Albon added.

Gasly on the other side, would not be drawn to discuss his crash with Albon. He said: “We had everything: wets, inters, crashes, Safety Car, two pits stops in five laps. There were so many things happening.”

“I was a bit unlucky when a couple of times things didn’t go our way but in the end I was a bit disappointed not to finish the race. There were clearly some opportunities.” he added.

Toro Rosso, though, is continuing to back their driver. They added that fighting a Red Bull driver was like fighting his own teammate on the track.

“Yes, he’s like a teammate. You take risks, but you do not take the same risks as in a duel with another driver. You are more careful, that’s for sure.” the team said.
