Andrea Dovizioso Is Suspicious of Fabio Quartararo

The new Petronas Yamaha SRT racer, Andrea Dovizioso, believes that Fabio Quartararo is hiding something about the YZR-M1 motorcycle.

Andrea Dovizioso has driven the YZR-M1 motorbike at the 2021 San Marino MotoGP. However, the new Petronas Yamaha SRT rider had to reap poor results after only finishing at bottom rank.

Even so, Dovizioso was not worried enough considering it was his first time driving the YZR-M1. The 35-year-old also said his main target so far has been to find a feeling with the bike.

The Misano test became the first event used to test the latest YZR-M1 motorbike that will be used for the upcoming 2022 MotoGP. However, there is one thing that makes him think hard, namely the gap that is quite far between him and Fabio Quartararo.

As is known, Quartararo is the only Yamaha rider who is the most competent this season. El Diablo has won a total of five races this season and led him to the top of the 2021 MotoGP standings.

“I don’t know how different my bike is from the factory bike and where the difference is,” said Dovizioso. “Besides, only Fabio is doing something so crazy, so he’s too far away for me to understand.”

However, Andrea Dovizioso does not deny that the YZR-M1 has great potential to compete with Ducati, Honda and Suzuki motorcycles. “But, this bike is special because it has many good things. It’s just that you have to ride it in a different way,” said Dovi again. “I need time to adapt and I have to understand everything,” said the man born in Forlimpopoli.

Furthermore, Andrea Dovizioso also commented on Fabio Quartararo’s racing style which according to him is very different from the MotoGP motorcycle grip. “You can see how Fabio drives. You have to brake very hard and increase the speed in the corners,” said Dovi.

“That’s the only way to exploit the potential of the bike, because that’s what is needed. That’s special, a bike for MotoGP shouldn’t be ridden like this. Maybe Suzuki does it, but other factory riders don’t,” concluded the Italian who left Ducati after 2020 season.
