Andrey Rublev Eyes Convincing End At ATP Finals, Turin

Russian Andrey Rublev will compete in the season-ending ATP Finals for the second year in a row.

The world number 5 has returned to basics and believes it is only a matter of time before an extraordinary result will come.

“I feel a lot better,” Andrey Rublev said. “In the last two weeks, I’ve done things well, both on and off the pitch. I’m back growing now. Of course, I will put in my best performance and I hope I can play well.”

“In my case it was to keep the same plan. Not only this week, but if I do what I have done in the last two weeks and a half, I will play better and the results will follow.”

The tennis player, who will play Novak Djokovic, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Casper Ruud in the Green Group, is adamant that he will prepare differently than last season when he made his debut at the ATP Finals in London.

“This season, I did things a little bit differently, relaxed a little bit. Hopefully I learned something from last season. I have analyzed and learned from my mistakes last season. We’ll see if I’m smart enough to play better,” added Rublev.

However, the 24-year-old, who has won four of his eight titles at indoor hard-court tournaments, insists he is not among the favorites to win the ATP Finals title.

“I don’t even think that I stand a chance or be a dark horse. I just want to focus on the process. What happened to Daniil, Stefanos and Sascha who won the title of this tournament, because they proved that they are top players in the world and they have the level to be here,” said Rublev.

“In my case I think about the process and I feel more happy about how I do everything on and off the pitch. It may not be immediately obvious, but if I keep doing what I’m doing, positive things will happen and I will go further in the tournament.”

The tennis player who bagged 48-20 in the 2021 season will challenge the 2019 ATP Finals champion, Tsitsipas in the first match of the group phase.
